USA Wins 1-1
What a fantastic misprint this was, found in the New York Post after England’s failure to overcome the 14th best international football team in the world.
Three things struck us:
- There were only 6 places between England and the USA going into the World Cup Finals in South Africa, yet culturally the difference is far greater for the American people, who in large, have very little understand or awareness of the game, it’s rules or seemingly how good a side they have.
- The New York post sells over half a million copies daily. This just goes to underline how important content is, and understanding of that content in it’s context.
- America’s optimism (some might say arrogance) is second to none. If England were to compete in a world championship baseball tournament and we’d managed to draw, which is far less likely, the headline on the front of the Daily Mail would read: “ENGLAND DISGRACE THEMSELVES”.
God bless America.
